I *HATED* Martha. Hated her. She seemed kind of pathetic to me, although I do like that (view spoiler). I also really don't like when the companion is all unrequited over the Doctor. I loved how sassy Donna was with him - they were truly friends, and I thought that was a much more powerful relationship than swooning over him!

message 756: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments HATED her? How is that possible!? She's smart, and kickass, and WALKED THE EARTH FOR A WHOLE YEAR to save the Doctor! And she was smart enough to realize that she wouldn't work out with the Doctor, and strong enough to walk away. I think that makes her awesome.

But I agree that Donna was my favorite, because she was just what he needed. Kept him in line, made him remember to care, had a loud mouth, was fun and funny, and adorable. God I love Catherine Tate/Donna Noble. This is why she's my favorite of them all.

If I have to have one I'd never watch again, I'd skip the seasons with Rose. I don't hate her, but she's my least favorite. The annoying love story, the annoying boyfriend, the annoying mother... ugh.

message 757: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments I just thought of Martha as kind of this sad puppy. She would follow this dude (even if he is a kick-butt, time traveling, alien dude) anywhere, pining over him, with no real reciprocation of her feelings.

As a general rule, though, I prefer the Moffett years to the Davies years. Davies wasn't murdery and dark enough for my tastes :X

message 758: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Ummm, I'd follow that dude anywhere, pining over him, with no real reciprocation of my feelings. He's THE DOCTOR.

Plus, she didn't. She saved him, then became kickass.

But we all have our tastes.

Donna Noble > Clara > Martha > Amy/Rory > Rose/Mickey.

(Jack and River are their own separate category, as are Jackie, Wilfred, etc.)

message 759: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments I'd go with Donna>Rory/Amy>Clara>Rose>Martha.

Wilf is definitely the best ever, though!

message 760: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Wilfred and Donna were my favorite family on there. The mom I could live without hahaha

Half way done with Inferno (Robert Langdon, #4) by Dan Brown . Hopefully, will be done with it soon.

I liked Inferno, but it wasn't near as good as the first two!

I agree. It's not as good as the first two and the lost symbol.

message 764: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments I'm a third of the way through Inferno, too, and I was sort of surprised the mystery didn't seem quite as twisty this time.

message 765: by Barb (new)

Barb Oh that doesn't bode well :( I have Inferno (Robert Langdon, #4) by Dan Brown on audio and was getting a bit excited about choosing that for my next "listen." Maybe I'll find something else instead :)

message 766: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Barb, it's still a good read. It's just not Angels & Demons good. :P

message 767: by Barb (new)

Barb Actually, I liked The Da Vinci Code (Robert Langdon, #2) by Dan Brown and The Lost Symbol (Robert Langdon, #3) by Dan Brown more than I liked Angels & Demons (Robert Langdon, #1) by Dan Brown . I think it was one of those "mood" things though; if I'd read it at a different time, I might have liked it more than I did.

message 768: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments A&D is by far my favorite... in fact, you can rank them in order of my favorites by their chronological order!

Morning!

Ok. So I am surprised at your level of feeling towards Martha Ashley Marie! lol! I understand what you mean, I just thought it was bad characterisation to have another companion in love with The Doctor at the end of the Rose series. That is why Donna Noble was so needed (and Catherine Tate couldn't have done a better job!)
Can River count as a companion? ;)
Then my faves would be

Donna Noble > River Song > Amy/Rory > Rose/Mickey (Jackie was sooo annoying!) > Martha > Clara

I'd love to see someone like Miranda Hart as the next companion :o

Oh and as far as Dr's go, out of the "newer series" I loved Christopher E, and I think Matt Smith is great, but David T is still my favourite. And I love listening to him in interviews and his real accent *swoon*

Barb Hey Mango Tango-ians! I know you're all reading, so why not stop by our Chain Game and see if you can fit your books into our team's chain? This is just for fun, no pressure, no deadline -- just something to keep us all in touch and talking about books :)

Lisa, I was lucky enough to go to a party last night where my partner dressed up as David Tennant's Doctor. He even did that thing with his hair. It was so amazing!

message 794: by Barb (last edited Jun 29, 2013 09:21PM) (new)

Barb It's been awhile since I've posted a completion here, yikes! Since I last "reported," I've finished

Cinnamon and Gunpowder by Eli Brown   Chocolate Dipped Death (A Candy Shop Mystery, #2) by Sammi Carter   'Til Death Do Us Part (Bailey Weggins, #3) by Kate White   The Senator's Wife by Sue Miller   The Long Quiche Goodbye (A Cheese Shop Mystery #1) by Avery Aames   The Quick and the Thread (An Embroidery Mystery, #1) by Amanda Lee   The Distant Hours by Kate Morton and Mama Rides Shotgun (A Mace Bauer Mystery #2) by Deborah Sharp

I'm almost done with Friendkeeping A Field Guide to the People You Love, Hate, and Can't Live Without by Julie Klam , but my eye issues have reared their ugly heads, and I have to stop for the night.

message 795: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Thanks Barb and Steven!

Wow, it looks like many of us have finished or are near finished at least one book today :)

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments I think I only finished two this week... Heat by R. Lee Smith (It was 617 pages) and The Lady of Secrets (The Dark Queen Saga, #6) by Susan Carroll .

But have three half read and I know I will finish MacReive by Kresley Cole that releases on 2 July this week so that will make four for next Sunday.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments PS I forgot this one too I finished on Friday. Heartless (Parasol Protectorate, #4) by Gail Carriger

I'll be starting that this week. So excited!

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6400 comments It was good, Nicole. I love the quirkiness and as someone who has read a million historical romance novels I get a kick of how she sends them up... with love.

message 800: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments And I have officially lost my willpower to wait and read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern . That's being started today too.
