message 602: by Barb (new)

Barb Don't forget that the moderator's 7% solution challenge begins this weekend! If you have any questions about it, see Mango Tango 7% Solution Thread

Remember, to make it easier for our Steven to keep track of the books we read for this challenge, ONLY COMPLETED BOOKS and the challenge options they fit should be posted HERE Please, NO CHATTER in that thread, not even book talk :)

And, last but not least, keep an eye on 7% Non-Reading Games & Puzzles for opportunities for our team to win 'cupcakes' that might be beneficial later in the Tower challenge overall! They're not required, but they're great for fun breaks from reading :)

Cupcake prizes! Yummy treats!
But to get them, first you must
complete some mighty feats!

The start you’ll find when first you look
at Captain Cupcake’s hideout...
The link to which is now provided,
through this shameless shoutout:

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Hey team. We're still running 9th but I think we can take Radical Red and Tickle me pink...

Go Mango Tango!

message 606: by Barb (new)

Barb I'm reading as fast as I can! Well, except this past weekend, but real life has to take priority once in awhile, right? I'll kick it up again later this week :)

message 607: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Yeah, so much to do, I need to read more. :(

message 608: by Jane (last edited Jun 07, 2013 07:33PM) (new)

Jane | 705 comments I have changed my total books to read in 2013. It was on 120 but as I have already read 87 books I have just changed it to 150.

I have changed it in my challenge for Goodreads and for Tower Teams but I don't know if I have to write it somewhere else as well in order to let the moderators know?

Lára Haí, Mango Tango

and I have a question - can we gift a book to the other team? I would like to give Mango Tango my next (read) book.

Hi, Lara! We appreciate the gesture, but you should count all your books for your team! :) That's very sweet of you to offer though!!!

Thanks!

I saw that! Thank you for such a warm welcome.

Resident snoop, Teresa? Gosh darn it. Now, if only we'd hidden all the group secrets...

message 625: by Barb (new)

Barb No worries, Nicole, not *all of our secrets are out here in the open! We'll have to be sure to give you and Thorne the special passkeys ASAP ;) I'm sure Steven has a couple of extras hanging around somewhere!

message 626: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments :) definitely! If I can stop staring at the new abs. *blush* hehehehehe

I'm terrible. But people shouldn't post eye candy and not expect people to stare!

message 627: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments It's okay, Steven. I found this old looking skeleton key around here somewhere. I'm sure it'll work just fine until you've finished staring at those new abs. :P Hehe!

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments It looks like I'm not the only male in the tower teams challenge now too!

I'll be updating the team spreadsheet this morning to reflect our new teammates!

Nicole, did you see the links at the beginning of this thread to important things?

@Steven

There is Michael on Pewter Blue. I think he's been here since the beginning, but he doesn't appear to have been really active. And then, there were 3....

message 630: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Haha Rhonsa. Epic win for you, with the Agatha Christie reference.

I think I might have known Michael was over there and forgotten.

I believe I have. I've read almost everything I could get my hands on, but do let me know if I've missed anything! :)

message 633: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I'm sure you got it all! It's not too complicated!

message 634: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Okay, everyone! We need to start talking ideas for a minichallenge for July, and also for what we want to do for our August Self-Created "Mods" challenge.

We have to read SEVENTY FIVE 75 books for the August challenge to earn book points.

Shall we do another Books by the Numbers challenge for one of those months? Any other ideas?

message 635: by Barb (new)

Barb What's the duration of the August challenge? I think it's only two weeks, right? That's not much time to read 75 books ...

message 636: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Oh and by the way:

WE'VE COMPLETED THE SEVEN PERCENT JUNE/JULY CHALLENGE!!! GOOD JOB TEAM!!!

I made sure to use as many books from each person that I could to make it work! :D

It's the whole month, based off a poll of the captain's preferences. We can handle that. We almost read 50 in our two week Bbt#s... and that's just those of us who wanted to do the mini-challenge, and not the whole team :D

message 638: by Barb (new)

Barb OK, a whole month is a lot better :) I know I had some ideas before, but now I can't remember them *sigh* I'll have to go back through old messages and see if I can find them.

I would like to participate in the August challenge, but I won't be able to if it is another books by the number challenge. I am trying to finish a few other challenges this year and the series I am reading don't fit. Except for Confessions of Georgia Nicolson and I am SO tired of her!

What if we only read books published in 2013, or in August of 2012?

message 640: by Karla (last edited Jun 17, 2013 01:35PM) (new)

Karla Or a play off Behind Enemy Lines, where we each have to read one book from each team members' shelves that were not previously on our own.

message 641: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I understand that, Karla... I really need to keep working on another challenge I'm in for the best Horror of all time for Horror Aficionados!

message 642: by Karla (new)

Karla Steven wrote: "I understand that, Karla... I really need to keep working on another challenge I'm in for the best Horror of all time for Horror Aficionados!"

If we go with my second idea, about taking books from our members' shelves, I can add all of the Stephen King books I own, but will probably never read, to my to read shelf and you can choose from them.

message 643: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Looks like Pewter Blue has created something like the 7% challenge (but with 8 categories) for the August thing.

Maybe I'll work on creating something like that.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Great job on finishing the 7% Solution, Mango Tango!!!

Eight categories of eight books each won't give us the 75 books we need ...

Would we be able to come up with 75 books that fit such a limited criteria? I know that if three of us read the same book, it counts three times, but it still seems kind of restricting. Except for the handful I have from the library right now, I'm current on the 2013 books that I want to read, and I wouldn't want to count on getting the new releases at a time when they would be useful to me. That said, if that theme works for the rest of you, I'm sure I'll be able to contribute a few here and there.

message 648: by Barb (new)

Barb Karla wrote: "Or a play off Behind Enemy Lines, where we each have to read one book from each team members' shelves that were not previously on our own."

Would it be ANY shelf? Or just the "Read" shelf? Would you keep it to Mango Tango teammates, or anyone participating in the Tower challenge?

Maybe if we limit it to MT members, but use any shelf -- Read, To-Read, Currently Reading?

message 649: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I dunno... Most of the stuff that you ladies read is quite different from my choices! Haha! Barb's mystery obsession is probably the closest!

Eight categories ..."

Pewter Blue came up with a way to tack on 11 "left-overs" in addition to the 64 from the 8x8 categories. If you guys went the 8x8 route, that's something you could consider doing, as well.
