message 354: by Auggie (new)

Auggie (auggietalk) Just started Darker Still (Magic Most Foul, #1) by Leanna Renee Hieber . Hopefully I'll have that read by 8pm, then I can start The Hunter's Moon (The Chronicles of Faerie, #1) by O.R. Melling ...Or watch Supernatural. o.o I haven't decided.

message 355: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I just finished my first book of the year, The Edge of Never by J.A. Redmerski . It wasn't as spectacular as I hoped it would be but it was a solid three stars.

Still reading Scent of Magic (Healer, #2) by Maria V. Snyder . It started off a little slow but I'm halfway through and it's getting good! I just want Kerrick and Avery to be reunited already!

message 356: by Barb (new)

Barb Just finished What the Cat Dragged In. It wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but it wasn't all the bad either. Next up: Agatha Christie's The Body in the Library.

Felt the same way about Scent of Magic. Took a while to get into it, but it started picking up about halfway through and then I couldn't put it down. Heh, the first two books I read this year were The Edge of Never and Scent of Magic. :-D I started Scent of Magic in December, though. Anyway, if you read Meant to Be next, we'll be 3 for 3!

message 358: by Em-Em (new)

OH MY GOD BEFORE I FALL IS ABSOLUTELY LOVELY!! I hope you enjoy it, I've got like last chapter and epilogue left + review. It gets really great once you get to chapter 3! :)

Alexa | 118 comments I just finished Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver and am 3/4 through Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare :)

message 367: by Rachel (new)

Rachel James | 3 comments hi all, I want to read some good suspense thriller/horror, anyone got any recommendations? Just finished '100 year old man who climbed out of the window and disappeared' highly recommend it , excellent read. The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared

message 368: by Barb (new)

Barb Rachel, have you read Before I Go To Sleep? I read it when it first came out, and I *still think about the story at times. Another that has been highly recommended by some of our library patrons is So Much Pretty.

What a coincidence! I agree with you about Scent of Magic, it went smoothing in the middle and towards the end. I ended up giving it 4 stars. What did you rate Edge of Never? Don't know if I'll read Meant to Be but maybe our fourth book will me the same ;-)

message 370: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I love Sarah Dessen as well but she's starting to become a little predictable to me. Nevertheless Just Listen and The Truth About Forever are two of my favorite books of all time.

I gave The Edge of Never 2/5 stars. Maybe my expectations were a little high because of the crazy high rating it had here on Goodreads, but I just didn't like it very much. I got really angry with it, actually, heh. I gave Scent of Magic four stars, too.

Those two are my favorites as well. I've read The Truth About Forever maybe four or five times. I actually haven't read any of her newer stuff. Every time I think about reading a new one, I end up rereading one of my favorites instead.

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 705 comments I am not getting a lot of reading done cause I can't get rid of this headache. I hopefully it will go away soon.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Aw, Lizz, I hope it is better soon. I loathe headaches.

message 374: by Sashana (last edited Jan 09, 2013 03:17PM) (new)

Sashana I was thinking about giving The Edge of Never 2.5 stars but I decided to be generous and just round up lol. I expected much more from it too.

Don't get me wrong, Mary, her new books are pretty good. But they don't hold a candle to her older books IMO. The only book that I haven't read by her is Dreamland and I'll probably hold off on reading that one for a looonnnngggg time.

I've had one all day, Lizz. I've even taken prescription medicine for it. And three naps today in hopes that it would go away. It needs to; I have to work tomorrow.

I took Advil and it went away for about an hour then came right back. This is the 2nd day with it

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 450 comments I hate multi-day headaches. I get them often though. Is this something common for you?

message 378: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments For me? Not really common, but I do get them. What usually happens, and I really hate, is I get a headache for several days in a row. Also, about once every six weeks I get one that just WON'T go away. Needless to say, I'm on migraine medication.

message 379: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Jan 09, 2013 03:50PM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Ugh, sorry to hear about the headaches, ladies! I hope they go away soon so you can get back to some uninterrupted reading!

Rachel, for horror I really liked Salem's Lot. I also loved Rebecca for a little bit of suspense.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Thanks, Teresa & Mary.

Yeah, Lizz, they steal so much of your life, when you suffer from them frequently.

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 84 comments After dithering about whether or not to count The Big Four, I chose to NOT to count it. To me, the book was only 160ish pages long (even in ebook). There were pages of her backlist and ads.

I've started my four book yesterday: Ashes of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #6) by Lara Adrian

message 384: by Auggie (new)

Auggie (auggietalk) Argh! I got slammed!

I'm currently reading A World Apart (The Elencheran Chronicles) by David M. Brown but I got busy with work and MA applications. *sigh*. I knew I was going to hit a bump! Well, I'll just have to read that much more these next couple of days to catch up! At least I'm still technically a book ahead of schedule!

Tell me about it. I had meningitis when I was a kid, and have suffered from migraines since. The migraine painkillers make me vomit, so I had to quit them. The migraine prevention meds either will make my hair fall off and make me feel nauseated or make me fall into serious depression (I'm a smiley person, I don't do depression well), so I had to quit them also.

The solution? Endure... regular hours of sleep (not too much or too little), meals on time, never EVER forget to take my morning coffee, and keep the alcohol drinks to a minimum... and always have ibuprophene on hand - it's the only thing that relieves the pain and/or keeps it under tolerable levels that doesn't have side effects.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Good Morning A-Team!!! I'ts about 10 something AM here at Lisbon, and it's raining, bummer! *note to self: do not look at the mirror to see the rain results on your curly hair*

Anyway, here's the teams results (taking in consideration that GR's has a little delay)

TEAM A:161
TEAM B:161
TEAM C:161
TEAM D:140

AMAZING! All the teams are pretty even. That is SO.MUCH.FUN!

I guess that means that I should stop with all the GR browsing and start reading.. oh...wait... I'm at work... so no reading...and no goodreads either (well, not much at least) being a grown up with obligations sometimes is so not fun!

*giggles*

Happy Readings to all!!!

GO TEAM!

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I'm on my 8th book! I decided to read a bunch of fluffy quick books to make up for some bigger books I plan to read later on. So much fun!

Mary (merinwe) | 1043 comments Wow, Stacie! :-D

Doing great, everyone! I'm hoping to finish my fifth book today.

message 392: by Barb (new)

Barb Stayed up later than I should have last night to finish The Body in the Library so I could return it to the library this morning. Next book, which I will start on my lunch break: Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World.

message 393: by Alexa (last edited Jan 10, 2013 06:30AM) (new)

Alexa | 118 comments Guys I was wondering could we maybe like have a group read every month? Like the regular group reads but that its just our group and that we vote for what book each month, so like we could I don't know...make sure everyone read at least 1 book each month towards their goal :) and we could make a thread to discuss or use this one (? not so sure about using this one due to confusions and whatnot)

It's just a thought! As I personally love reading books with others because of the fact that I can discuss it y'know :P and as for genres, I've noticed we all have varied taste so we could make it fair and read a book for each genre? I don't know hahah, It's just an idea!!
If its not do-able or that not enough people are willing to join then its fine! :)

I like that idea, Alexa! It might be difficult to come up with books we'd all enjoy, as we all read so many different genres. And we all read at different paces, too, so that's something else to consider. I'll talk it over with Sonia and the other mods and see what they think about it.

message 397: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 1314 comments I finished Witchling (Otherworld / Sisters of the Moon #1) by Yasmine Galenorn and loved it! Now I'm switching to something completely different and going to read Seduce Me at Sunrise (The Hathaways, #2) by Lisa Kleypas !

message 398: by Barb (new)

Barb Alexa wrote: "Guys I was wondering could we maybe like have a group read every month?"

Because of the varied reading interests in the group, instead of a group read, maybe a readathon would work better? Or maybe do both?

message 399: by Gayle (new)

Gayle (gretarahikkainen) | 125 comments Hey gang, just finished my first book in this challenge. Ice Forged by Gail Z. Martin I'm not the fastest of readers, so I apologize ahead of time that I won't read quite as many as others. I also have way too many things that I do as hobbies, so am unable to read all the time. Will be starting my second book tonight.

The Snake Stone (Yashim the Eunuch, #2) by Jason Goodwin
