Review:
This installment in about another one of Raphael's Seven assisting the Archangel Neha in an investigation. As Raphael's Spymaster, Jason is an angel of few words and trusts very little. His loyalty to Raphael is put to the test but stands admirably straight. While it's a paranormal romance, I was not surprised that a very private man would not open up and transform into pussy whipped guy. It is just not the kind of character Jason is and would not be believable as a man of intelligence gathering. Some would find his romance with the princess Mahiya quite cold but I think it is just right. The pace is slower than in the previous books because the emphasis is on discovering court intrigue. If there is lack of tender moments between the main couple, it is remedied with glimpses of the previous pairing (Dmitri and Honor). All in all, it's more a 4.5 stars but since I like this author and hope for Illium's book soon.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments Since it's the end of the month, I'll wait until monday to start another book to make sure it counts for other reading challenges. :)

Also, Gail Carriger fans, did you know she has a YA series coming out in February?

Etiquette & Espionage (Finishing School, #1) by Gail Carriger
It's set 25 years before Parasol Protectorate, but in the same universe. Looks intriguing!

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments Not really, I got one audiobook already started since yesterday...it can keep me occupied until monday.

Pride (Shifters, #3) by Rachel Vincent
★★★★1/2
09/29/12

Best book of the series so far if you ask me. The first two I had trouble getting into the story and my dislike for the characters kind of bogged me down a bit. This one had a much more interesting storyline right from the start so the character blah-ness was less of a problem. Faythe has tendencies towards being TSTL in all the books so far, including this one. It is one of the reasons I don't much care for her. There was an interesting plot twist that I didn't really see coming: (view spoiler). I'm eager to start the next book and continue with the series.

Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments I am debating between Prey (Shifters, #4) by Rachel Vincent , Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse, #12) by Charlaine Harris , Another One Bites the Dust (Jaz Parks, #2) by Jennifer Rardin , and Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, #4) by Jeaniene Frost for the urban fantasy shelf. Put me down for Deadlocked, but I may change my mind when the time comes for me to read it. :-)

aaawww... super sweet story, I'm in luuuv with Wren!
He's just so damn cute!
I liked the fact that we barely heard about the dark-hunters because it made this book part of the series but at the same time it was just about the were-hunter world.
I really really enjoyed how Wren changed around Maggie, how they fell in love and, finally, how Maggie stood up to his father.

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) Finished Tempting the Beast (Breeds #1) by Lora Leigh 28.09.12

Rating: ***

Review
This is the first book in the Feline Breeds Series, and follows the story of Callan Lyons a genetic experiment. He is in a pack of six fighting for their survival and freedom, from the Genetics Council who want them back in their custody so they can use them for their own ends.

Merinus Tyler is a Reporter who wants to be given an assigment, sick of being man-handled and bossed about by her older borthers and her father she begs to be assigned to Callan Lyons....when the two meet sparks fly and the mating bond causes both serious problems.

I have read Lora Leigh before and have always enjoyed the books especially Nauti series, I had thought after reading these and various reviews this book would be brilliant.

It has all the makings of one, but for me there was just something missing! As usual from Leigh, there was hot paced action in and out of the bedroom :) words used which leaves you open mouthed and enough heat in the scenes that you have to fan yourself down. I have not however written the series off I will probably try another book and see what I think about it, maybe different chacters will draw me in, I just didn't warm to these two :(

Crystal, I thought Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse, #12) by Charlaine Harris was better the the previous couple of Sookie books. I was pleasantly surprised.

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) Finished: Kick-Ass Heroine Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison 29.09.12

Rated: ***

Review:
This is the first installment of the Elder Races series and follows half-Wyr Pia, who has been blackmailed into stealing from a dragon by her ex boyfriend, who by the way it a total ass! When Dragos realises that someone has gotten the better of him he is determined to find out who it was and how they managed to find his lair. Pia, meanwhile just wants to disappear and stay out of trouble from now on - the worst possible thing is for Dragos to find her. But when Dragos does just that she finds out that things can in fact get a lot worse.

I have been wanting to read this book for ages after reading terrific reviews and had various recommendations of my goodread friends....and I have to say this but I just couldn't get into it! I am not sure whether this is a character thing or that with what is going on im my private life at the moment with my Father In Law my head just wasn't in the book. I did enjoyed it in parts, but yet I can't say that it hooked me on the series - I am not desperate for the next installment or particularly bothered about how the story continues.

However that said this may be a book that I re-read in the future because I am sure all those people can't be wrong!!

Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse, #12) by Charlaine Harris
10/02/12
★★★★★

I enjoyed it, as per usual with the Sookie Stackhouse books. I still love Eric (ok, ok, I mostly think he's HAWT), but am more convinced than ever that if Sookie ends up with anyone, it's gonna be Sam (whom I also adore). Not sure why I think this, I just do. There was a surprise bad guy in this book, although it wasn't as much of a "big bad" as there usually is (IMO). It seems pretty clear that Charlaine Harris is wrapping up the series, giving minor characters from across the entire series their happy endings (Jason, Tara, Hoyt, Kennedy, etc.) I'm eager to see how she ends it all.

Now, I'm off to finish my favorite author book. I'm already off to a good start.

Review:
Even with a longer page count the story did not drag while not featuring the frantic drama of her Cassie Palmer series. The story picks up with the ongoing war with the Black Circle and the challenges to fill the empty seats on the North American Senate. Mircea has managed to employ Dory with the Vampire Senate task force on the smuggling of magical items and weaponry out of Faerie. Obviously nothing is as it seems and a few wrench es are thrown in everybody's perfect plans. Ray turned from only a comic relief to an important character that pulls his own weight in the fights.

Louis Cesare's character has undergone some changes that I was not really happy with but he is as ever determined to win Dory's heart even if she does not want to give it away. It creates lots of tender moments that I treasure.

As if there were not enough drama, we get treated to many more glimpses into Mircea's struggle with having a father-daughter relationship with Dory. In many respect, a lot of loose ends are tied up to explain their current problems and it is a delight to wonder where those revelations will take the story to.

Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments Since my goal for this round is to not start any new series, I'll read Single White Vampire (Argeneau, #3) by Lynsay Sands . I thought about the darker Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress, #4) by Jeaniene Frost or Lover Avenged (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #7) by J.R. Ward , but I am in the mood for brain candy. Also, I am barely tolerating JR Ward's slang and need more time before continuing with that series (even though it's been months already.)

Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments Sandy, I've got The Golden Lily on my Paperbackswap wishlist. Hope you enjoy it. I haven't yet read Bloodlines (see previous goal of not starting new series right now), but am definitely looking forward to it, since I very much enjoyed the Vampire Academy series. Hmm, it's the same world as that series, maybe it doesn't count as a new series???? LOL

I have to tell you I loved Lover Avenged. I really didn't expect to since I didn't really care about Rhevenge. Turns out its my second favorite of BDB behind Lover Mine. Both were very emotional.

message 139: by Crystal S (new)

Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments Hmm, maybe I'll read it soon then. So far my favorite (by a long, long shot) has been Lover Awakened with Zsadist and Bella. Really, I like the world she's created more than any of the characters.

I am not getting notifications for any threads. So obnoxious.

I've been out of a job since August and I have been interviewing and such, but the job market in my area is terrible at the moment. So to make rent I've been doing a bunch of odd jobs that haven't left a lot of time to be online. :/ I'm doing my best to catch up though and I will be totally caught up pretty quick here!

Finished: 09/10/2012

Review: This latest installment of the Jane Yellowrock series stems from one fateful kill that Jane made in the previous book (Raven Cursed). It is also a moment for Jane to evaluate her priorities and who her allies really are. Even if Jane has always though that a good vamp is a dead vamp...she is forced to look back on events (with Beast's help and insight) what is the nature of a vamp. She also goes further into her quest while pondering what is her nature too.

In my opinion it is one of the strongest offering in the series.

It's exams and grading week at work so every day is a new level of madness.
I haven't even touched last week's book, I've been carrying it around but haven't really gotten much time to read... or sleep lately.
