I was going to recommend John Green, but apparently you've already read and loved his books (DFTBA, by the way). I haven't read Thirteen Reasons Why, but Perks of Being a Wallflower was good.
Here's something which is a little more serious, and a bit sadder than Perks. The main character has some similarities to Charlie, and I suppose I rather like him. Hope you like this book.
