Can someone recommend a witty, romantic book with a happy ending. G or PG rating regarding violence, language, and sex. Not really interested in Harlequin/Barbara Cartland stuff and have already tried and liked Elizabeth Cadell, D.E. Stevenson, and Miss Read. Many thanks in advance! :-)...more
About:
My historically favorite authors are Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, Rosamunde Pilcher, and Dorothy Sayers.

More recently, I've discovered Jan Karon, D.E. Stevenson, Elizabeth Cadell, and Eva Ibbotson. Some I found through my GoodReads friends, some through mentions of them in other books but I love them all and they've all written some of my favorite novels.
I also want to acknowledge my recent discovery of some wonderful Chick-Lit authors who I've enjoyed tremendously in the past few years. Through recommendations from Goodreads friends, I discovered the joys of reading Jenny Colgan, Milly Johnson, Debbie Johnson's "Comfort Food Cafe" series, and Jill Mansell. Then for VERY (for me) steamy there’s Jill Shalvis, Susan Mallory, Sarah Morgan, Lucy Parker, Beth O’Leary, and Emily Henry. They have to all make me laugh out loud, I love the main characters, and the storylines are great!
My Rating System: 5 stars - This is a book I'll read again and again. I own it in all possible formats and, if applicable, in both the US and British versions. 4 stars - The only difference from a 5 is that, although I totally love a book, there's something that takes away from its perfection. Mostly this has to do with too much profanity, overly graphic sex, or violence. 3 stars - Really enjoyed reading it but not sure if its worth a second reading. 2 stars - It was OK. I liked it enough to finish it but meh. 1 star/DNF - Hated it. Especially dislike bleak and humorless, preachy agendas, and totally disgusting language (do you really need to use the "C" word???) or graphic sex. OK, OK, I totally loved "The Hating Game" but please don't judge me too much!!!! :-) LOL
