It's the second book in the eponymous trilogy, but it's the best. I mean that both in terms of the books comprising the trilogy and in all of fantasy literature. It's both. Seriously. Gormenghast is supreme. But, by all means, read the first book ('Titus Groan')...erm...first. But, finally, the last word has to be....Gormenghast.
