“The whole world stops when a young person dies. At least, the world you live in. At first, everyone you know rallied around you, stunned and grieving milling around. The solidarity of loss binds people together. No one can imagine moving forward. No one wants to. Stop all the clocks the poem instructs".”
    Kristin Higgins

    Taylor Jenkins Reid
“She always made sure the bad was outweighed by so much good. I...well, I didn't do that for her. I made it fifty-fifty. Which is about the cruelest thing you can do to someone you love, give them just enough good to make them stick through a hell of a lot of bad.”
Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

“People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth. When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is 'you're safe with me'- that's intimacy.”
Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

“You want to watch the world burn?"

"Let me guess, you'll set it on fire?" I ask.

He chuckles, the sound vibrating through me settling into my bones.

"No, darling. I'll hand you the match, and stand at your back, watching you become queen of the ashes.”
    Emily McIntire, Hooked

“Life changes with the kind of pulse that makes the world stop for a second, that lets you listen to the breath of stars and ocean. The day you recognize your life will never be the same".”
    Kristin Higgins

“Isn’t it awfully convenient,” Harry added, “that when men make the rules, the one thing that’s looked down on the most is the one thing that would bear them the greatest threat? Imagine if every single woman on the planet wanted something in exchange when she gave up her body. You’d all be ruling the place. An armed populace. Only men like me would stand a chance against you. And that’s the last thing those assholes want, a world run by people like you and me.”
Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

    Tillie Cole
“This isn't the end, it's just a little pause in our lives, I'll be watching over you, I'll be in your heart, I'll be in the blossom grove that we love so much, in the sun and the wind".”
Tillie Cole, A Thousand Boy Kisses

    Selma Blair
“There is always one person who gets under our skin, who knows our weak spots and neuroses and can’t help but go in for the kill. They are the people who wound us the most, because we care so much about what they think. For my mother, that person was PopPop. For me, that person is my mother.”
Selma Blair, Mean Baby: A Memoir of Growing Up

“To the Darling women. The stars are not only above us, they are in us. May we shine brightly, dream deeply, and fly high all on our own.”
    Liz Michalski, Darling Girl

“Why does it take a life ending to learn how to cherish each day? Why must we wait until we run out of time to start to accomplish all that we dreamed, when once we had all the time in the world? Why don’t we look at the person we love the most like it’s the last time we will ever see them? Because if we did, life would be so vibrant. Life would be so truly and completely lived.”
Tillie Cole, A Thousand Boy Kisses

“because sometimes all we get are moments. There are no do-overs; whatever happens in a moment defines life—perhaps it is life.”
Tillie Cole, A Thousand Boy Kisses

“I think hearts beat a rhythm like a song. I think, that just like music, we’re drawn to a particular melody. I heard your heart’s song, and yours heard mine.”
Tillie Cole, A Thousand Boy Kisses

    Rebecca Serle
“There are a million things in this world that can end you, that can in one second obliterate the life you work so hard to keep alive. Our lives are structured around not dying. Eating, sleeping, looking both ways before you cross the street. It's all, all of it, to keep us safe from the thing that we know is going to get us anyway. It doesn't even make sense, if you think about it. It's the world's biggest joke. Our entire lives are set up around not dying, knowing all the while that it's the one thing we can't avoid.”
Rebecca Serle, When You Were Mine

    Jodi Lynn Anderson
“Did you know I always thought you were braver than me? Did you ever guess that that was why I was so afraid? It wasn't that I only loved some of you. But I wondered if you could ever love more than some of me.

I knew I'd miss you. But the surprising thing is, you never leave me. I never forget a thing. Every kind of love, it seems, is the only one. It doesn't happen twice. And I never expected that you could have a broken heart and love with it too, so much that it doesn't seem broken at all. I know young people look at me and think my youth seems so far away, but it's all around me, and you're all around me. Tiger Lily, do you think magic exists if it can be explained? I can explain why I loved you, I can explain the theory of evolution that tells me why mermaids live in Neverland and nowhere else. But it still feels magic.

The lost boys all stood at our wedding. Does it seem odd to you that they could have stood at a wedding that wasn't yours and mine? It does to me. and I'm sorry for it, and for a lot, and I also wouldn't change it.

It is so quiet here. Even with all the trains and the streets and the people. It's nothing like the jungle. The boys have grown. Everything has grown. Do you think you will ever grow? I hope not. I like to think that even if I change and fade away, some other people won't.

I like to think that one day after I die, at least one small particle of me - of all the particles that will spread everywhere - will float all the way to Neverland, and be part of a flower or something like that, like that poet said, the one that your Tik Tok loved. I like to think that nothing's final, and that everyone gets to be together even when it looks like they don't, that it all works out even when all the evidence seems to say something else, that you and I are always young in the woods, and that I'll see you sometime again, even if it's not with any kind of eyes I know of or understand. I wouldn't be surprised if that is the way things go after all - that all things end happy. Even for you and Tik Tok. and for you and me.

    Always,
    Your Peter

P.S. Please give my love to Tink. She was always such a funny little bug.”
    Jodi Lynn Anderson, Tiger Lily

“Sometimes I think that maybe we are just stories. Like we may as well just be words on a page, because we're only what we've done and what we are going to do.”
    Jodi Lynn Anderson, Tiger Lily

    Colleen Hoover
“Love isn’t always pretty, Tate. Sometimes you spend all your time hoping it’ll eventually be something different. Something better. Then, before you know it, you’re back to square one, and you lost your heart somewhere along the way.”
    Colleen Hoover, Ugly Love

  • #20
    Selma Blair
“Looking back is the way to move forward. To meet it. There are many plot points I don't remember clearly, so many time frames upon frames lost. I numbed my body and left it an empty shell for taking. I still don't know a lot of the details, and it's safe to say I never want to.”
Selma Blair, Mean Baby: A Memoir of Growing Up

  • #21
    Jodi Lynn Anderson
“It turned out that my curiosity did not outweigh my courage after all. Sometimes love means not being able to bear seeing the one you love the way they are, when they're not what you hoped for.”
    Jodi Lynn Anderson, Tiger Lily

“You mistake love. You think it has to have a future in order to matter, but it doesn't. It's the only thing that does not need to become at all. It matters only insofar as it exists. Here. Now. Love doesn't require a future.”
    Rebecca Serle, In Five Years
