Goodreads asked Betsy Aldredge:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Betsy Aldredge I like to outline first and even write the "query" before writing a single sentence so I know the major character arcs, stakes, and conflicts and keep them in mind when I'm drafting.

Don't be afraid of the blank page. The first draft is supposed to be a mess. It may take 12 drafts before you're ready to query agents. That's totally normal.
