Goodreads asked Rachael Ball:

How do you get inspired to write?

Rachael Ball Being a cartoonist I use a mixture of visual doodles and hand written notes to come up with ideas. I have note books all over the place to scribble down thoughts, inspirations or really great conversations I've overheard. I think the journey from inspiration to actual writing goes through several stages. Starts with scribbling. Then I do collecting and putting different ideas together. Then selecting and chucking ideas out. Then the heavy work starts of planning plots and thinking 'Is there actually a point to doing this?' If there is then I would spend quite a while devising characters personalities and structuring the plot before actually scripting.
