Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?

C. Streetlights My favorite fictional couple will always be Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe from the Anne of Green Gable series. From the time I first I read the series -- maybe when I was 10 or 11 years old -- I fell in love with Anne and Gilbert.

What captured my heart the most was being able to follow their love story from the time they were young until they were an older couple with children of their own. Even now that I am 40 and thinking about how their relationship developed as their individual characters developed reminds me of how much I've related to them. Their relationship wasn't an easy one; they spent time as a "long distance" couple, lost a son in WWI, had a strong-willed daughter (I'm raising one now!), and so they have much more in common in with modern-day relationships than many would think.
