C. Streetlights We had a ghost in my house when I was growing up. It all began with a rock that woke my parents up in the middle of the night by ricocheting against the walls of their bedroom. It would also throw keys and turn the kitchen lights on and off. There were periods of inactivity throughout the years, some months it would be more active with years in between with nothing happening at all. But I do think that with some brainstorming, and time with my siblings reminiscing of our family's ghost, it would be a fun plot to develop.
C. Streetlights Hi Morgan, thank you for the question!

Yes, I was always a reader as a child. My brother and sister (both older) thought it'd be a hoot to teach me to read before I entered kindergarten and so I learned to read with the Golden Books. Unfortunately, I didn't have the reading comprehension to go along with the reading they taught me, so even though I could read the words I didn't really know what they meant. Still, I was able to catch up quickly.

From that point on, reading became my escape and loved visiting our local library. There, I would check out piles of books. I'm not sure if there was a limit on how many we could check out at at time or not. But I remember each summer they would host a themed reading program where they'd have incentives for how many books kids could read. There'd usually be a small poster to keep track of what books you read and librarians would stamp it when you returned the book. After a certain amount of books you could get a prize.

By the time I hit later elementary and junior high school, I could read several books in a day. They were my one true refuge where I could lose myself and not hear my parents fighting or I could forget everything that was happening around me.

Books truly saves lives and I am proof of that.
C. Streetlights My favorite fictional couple will always be Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe from the Anne of Green Gable series. From the time I first I read the series -- maybe when I was 10 or 11 years old -- I fell in love with Anne and Gilbert.

What captured my heart the most was being able to follow their love story from the time they were young until they were an older couple with children of their own. Even now that I am 40 and thinking about how their relationship developed as their individual characters developed reminds me of how much I've related to them. Their relationship wasn't an easy one; they spent time as a "long distance" couple, lost a son in WWI, had a strong-willed daughter (I'm raising one now!), and so they have much more in common in with modern-day relationships than many would think.

C. Streetlights Good gracious! I've only just seen this response! I see that Ollie is much like Frankie -- Frankie also sneaks Kleenex right out of the garbage. She has even taught herself how to step on the pedal that opens the top of the can. Once she does so, she'll reach her little snout into the top and snatches the Kleenex and runs. Dogs are definitely gross, I have no idea why they prefer the used Kleenex over the clean. But I guess it's a mystery, just like I won't ever understand why my 15yo boy is happy wearing the same socks three days in a row or why my little girl -- when she was a baby -- loved to splash in the toilet.
C. Streetlights I'm so happy you've reached out, Anne! Yes, Rachel Thompson is absolutely wonderful. She and I have known each other since 2009 and we can't even believe that time has gone by so quickly sometimes. I am so in awe of her yet I am also quite appalled she was able to get me to eat tofu. Of course I have forgiven her for that.

I have to know this, though, does your dog cry for the Kleenex? I have to actually store my Kleenex in my bedside table drawer late at night after I've used it and then Frankie will sit in front of the table and cry for it as if she needs her next fix.
C. Streetlights Hi Deborah!
Thanks for stopping by and dropping a question. After languishing over my bio for weeks I finally did write this one and thought, "I'm not writing another one." For some reason, the bio was the hardest thing for me to put together. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
C. Streetlights Inspiration comes when it wants to; it can't be forced. However I do allow it to find a hospitable environment when it does. I keep a notebook available to my imagination wherever I am so that I can write ideas down -- never believe for a minute that you'll remember something later! It doesn't have to be a fancy or expensive moleskin-type notebook. I buy a ton of the spiral bound pocket-sized notebooks when they're on sale and keep them stashed everywhere.
C. Streetlights I'm currently working on a short story collection. Happy to be back in the world of fiction again.
C. Streetlights Just write. The best thing for new writers is to have no fear and write. Don't worry about following rules or guidelines or any advice you see printed in "how-to" articles. Just write.
