Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?

David Wong Mulder and Scully, from the really good middle seasons of the X-Files. I think literally the first time I saw a female character who was clearly supposed to have sex appeal, but the attraction was all around the fact that she's smart, capable and heroic. Mulder was the airhead, the model-handsome guy who's always screwing up who needs her to come to his rescue. They had incredible respect for each other, loved each other deeply, but (at least when the show was in its prime) they never had a romance. Mulder cared about her too much to ruin her life by getting attached to a hot mess like him. I've never seen the equivalent on TV before or since.
