John Waring asked David Wong:

David - Big fan and love all your work. A lot of writers have trouble getting started; the ideas are there but the fear of failure, etc. stops the actual writing. Did you ever experience this and, if so, what got you started?

David Wong I just had nothing at stake, I was broke and posting it for free on the internet. If people hated it, so what? They didn't invest anything other than time and you've got to be bored as hell to read some fool's internet fiction. But I never sent JDATE to an agent or publisher, the success it had all involved people coming to me after it became popular online. First Permuted press emailed me, then Don Coscarelli, then Thomas Dunne books. Even when it came time to find an agent, I had to ask the publisher if they could recommend one. So I got over my fear of rejection by just never doing the scary part.
