It's Alfie and Jonah from the short novel "Alfie". This is because: 1) the story is embedded in the Heartland - far from the madding crowd, if you will. 2) It has Biblical antecedents - recalling the story of Jacob and Rachel. 3) I think the climactic conversation, in a dressing room at Target, is one of the greatest romantic encounters you'll ever read.
