Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?

Then I met Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler, and they are probably my lifetime favorite fictional couple. Rhett could see through Scarlett's pretensions to the woman inside that he loved. Scarlett was so lost in her fantasy of life that she lusted for a man who could never make her happy and ignored the one who was her perfect match. Her illusions clouded her life until the end when she finally saw herself for the fool she'd been. The frisson of the chase remained intact until the last sentence of the book when Scarlett pledged to pursue the man who'd always been there for her at every step of her life after he left her to fend for herself. Her indomitable will rose to the challenge. After all, tomorrow is another day.
