Jerri Blair She turned and screamed when she saw the ghostly white form that had followed her from the filthy restroom at the tiny country gas station on the lonely country road to nowhere. She fled from the sea of leering faces that brayed with cruel laughter at her discomfort as she returned to the slimy floor to free herself from the chain of paper that tied her to that indecent chamber.
Jerri Blair My answer would probably change from day to day or maybe even hour to hour, but today I'd travel to India. I'd sit beside the river with Siddhartha and listen to it laugh.
Jerri Blair I so longed as a young girl for Jo and Laurie from "Little Women" to become the couple I wanted them to be, but, alas, it never happened. Then I met Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler, and they are probably my lifetime favorite fictional couple. Rhett could see through Scarlett's pretensions to the woman inside that he loved. Scarlett was so lost in her fantasy of life that she lusted for a man who could never make her happy and ignored the one who was her perfect match. Her illusions clouded her life until the end when she finally saw herself for the fool she'd been. The frisson of the chase remained intact until the last sentence of the book when Scarlett pledged to pursue the man who'd always been there for her at every step of her life after he left her to fend for herself. Her indomitable will rose to the challenge. After all, tomorrow is another day.
Jerri Blair If the energy isn't flowing for me, I just go away and do something else until it comes back.
Jerri Blair It's a dream for a trial lawyer to be able to control the facts and the outcome. But what touches me the most is the possibility that my work might impact my readers in a positive way.
Jerri Blair Follow your heart when you write, but follow up with sharp editing. Reviewing and cutting can be just as important as getting the story down in the first place.
Jerri Blair I am currently editing a novel set in a small backwoods Southern town. Its populace has been stunned by the murder of one of its most prominent white citizens by a small time black drug dealer. The story was inspired largely by one of the cases I was involved in as a practicing attorney. It has many twists and turns in its journey through the legal process and is entwined with the story of the charismatic public defender appointed to represent the man accused of murder.
Jerri Blair My stories come from a combination of sources. Anything that happens around me can be a trigger for a story, but the flow of energy that fuels my storytelling seems to arise from somewhere deep inside. Initially, I don't try to consciously decide what my story will be. I concentrate on the internal flow of energy and the story comes to me.
Jerri Blair My most recently published book, Justice For The Black Knight, first came to me in a dream. I then used my experience in high profile trials and my personal experiences growing up in the segregated South to create the story.
