I spent a moment thinking about this, and to be honest the best example I can come up with is Catelyn and Eddard Stark, from A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin.
It's everything they've been through, individually and as a couple, that sets them apart for me. And despite both their shortcomings, they stick together and support each other no matter what. Even later in the series, with Eddard long dead, Catelyn treats his memory with nothing but honour; I'd love to know that my wife behaved that way around me, even after I'm gone!
