Goodreads asked C.S. Johnson:

Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?

C.S. Johnson There are a lot of good fictional couples I like, for different reasons. From other authors' works, I probably like Kathy Tyers' "Firebird" series, with Firebird Angelo and Brennen Caldwell, the most. It's a series I've read several times, and I probably like them best because they don't just fall in love with each other, they have to find a way to work with each other. Falling in love is not the end for them.

When I write my stories, I believe the same things. Falling in love is grand, but love and trust must grow, and it has to be tied to other things in order to be real. I've read romance novels and seen movies where after three days or less, people are in love, and we all love that, but it also makes me cynical. I want lasting love, not caught-up-in-a-moment love, no matter how good and right it feels. I want a future. That's why with all of my own 'shipping, I make it clear that falling love is not a stagnant achievement nor an ideal accomplishment; it has to be only the beginning of a story that will go on long after I've stopped writing.
