I am shocked that there are so many negative reviews. This is one of the greatest satires ever written, in a league by itself. Confederacy, and crime and punishment are my favorite novels. I read confederacy every 3-4 years and am continually astounded by the brilliance of this book. My circle of 10 literary friends place this book at the top of the list. Why are there so many negative reviews?

They must find the character compelling or even attractive to be interested. Because it's a guy they find repugnant they fail to find the humor. Also, some guys who take themselves too seriously can't identify with a flawed character.(less)
