How do you typically approach a new writing project? I'm personally very character-driven in my writing and find that I sometimes struggle finding the through-lines in terms of plot and particularly in writing endings. Do you have any tricks or advice for focusing all the loose threads that spring up in the writing process?
Jeff Zentner
I always start a project by getting to know my characters well enough that they can tell me what they want and where they hope to end up. So I never start writing until I know my characters inside and out and how their story will end. Make sure you keep your eye always on the stakes of the story.

I just finished reading Rayne and Delilah's Midnite Matinee and it was one of the best books I've read this year and I loved it It was funny and sad at the same time. Sadder was when Delia's dad's left her at a very young and when they confronted each other and then her dad told her the truth, Delia was surprised but also sad. Question I have in my mind is, was it hard to write about abandonment in this book?
