What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Rae Louise Write the kind of novel that you'd want to read, even if that means taking a risk. Unique stands out whether people love it or hate it; every author gets mixed reactions. Get your work professionally edited if possible, whether you plan on self-publishing or going down the traditional route and seeking an agent; otherwise, there's tons of advice on writing websites and blogs. Proofread until your eyes bleed. Start networking early on and spread the word about your project to build interest and, hopefully, a readership - which I never did (whoops). Do NOT give up!
