Robin Bootle Extropia: Mind Game brings together two of the most important technologies of our age, technologies that will make the world we know today unrecognisable in the years to come: Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Everyone's talking about how robots and machines may become a threat to humankind and how we need to make sure they are programmed to be unable to hurt humankind. But what about the characters of a computer game? These characters are quite literally programmed to defeat the humans they play against. What happens when they realise there's another world out there, and the deeply troubled world in which they live exists only for the entertainment of others?
