Goodreads asked Jane West:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Jane West Giving advice is for those who have been doing this for many many years and is successful, signed with a high-end publisher like Random House and are a paying bestseller and has written high-end books. I think of Stephen King when I say that.

For me... I say, learn the ends and out of how to write. Take courses, read books on creative writing, write and write hard. Stretch your skills, strive to improve and never, never think you have learned it all. Arrogance shrinks you. Nothing is wrong with having pride in your work but always know that your work can improve.

Don't listen to everyone in the FREE world giving you advice. Like I said earlier unless that person has made it to the very top like Stephen King, they really don't have the experience to give you good sound advice. Follow your gut. It will get you where you need to go a lot quicker than someone just giving you random ill-advised advice. Do your research on everything and remember you can't please everyone. So stop trying. I have a book that I tell everyone it is a must have. Its name is The Novel-Maker's Handbook by Diane O'Connell. This lady used to be the editor for Random House. She has been an editor for many years. This book will guide you to how to write a bestseller. She knows her stuff and I use her book like it's the writer's bible. It's that awesome!
