How do Mitch Rapp fans feel about the Kyle Mills books as opposed to the Vince Flynn ones. Jury is still out for me. I know he has to take subtle changes in direction to make the Rapp series his own but???

I'm so torn about this. I was devastated by the loss of Vince Flynn and I'm grateful to Kyle Mills for continuing the character. But Mitch Rapp feels different to me. He's not the same guy. He's more aggressive and less -- hmm, intelligent? I don't know, he just feels different. He speaks with a different tone; he's less patient with people. But even with all that said, I'll continue to purchase the books and read them. A different Mitch Rapp is better than no Mitch Rapp at all.

I guess I would ask why he has "to make Rapp series his own"? He's borrowing Vince Flynn's character, mystique and success. I agree with the other answers that Mills has lost the essence of App and turned him into a "shoot first ask questions later" or perhaps even more accurate "kill them all and let god sort them out" caricature. Not nearly as well crafted as Flynn's original.

I have read all the books in the Mitch Rapp series and I think since Kyle Mills has taken over small changes are occurring. I find Mitch is a bit more aggressive in his attitude. Perhaps its because the character is getting older, he has less patience? I've always found the quiet reflective side of the character to be interesting and shows a deeper side to the character. He of course is physically aggressive, and his dry since of humor hasn't changed much. I'm sure Kyle Mills finds writing this series a bit difficult but I'm glad he is and Mitch lives on.

The two Kyle Mills written books in the Mitch Rapp series that I have read have been a bit disappointing. It felt like they lost some of the earlier heart and I missed the occasional non-pc political rants that Mitch would go off on now and then. Maybe Mills is playing it a little too safe to avoid offending anybody. And finally, Mitch feels more like a 2-dimensional trigger happy tough guy.

I gave a 4 rating to all of Flynn's books, except for one. So far Mills has gotten two three's and working on the third. He's a lot less cerebral and way more action oriented seemingly for the sake of action....reads more like military operations than the work of an Assassin. He's a disappointment in my opinion.
