Hi. My cousin wants to read this book but she is extremely upset by descriptions of physical and sexual abuse? Is there content of this nature? If so, how descriptive is it? Spoilers are OK. Thanks in advance?

Mary I think it would be pretty hard for sensitive readers. Some of the abuse is graphic, some is not, but the Julian describes the pain and the injuries in first person. Toward the end, it gets pretty intense.
Hailey Hudson I'm the same way and this book really really bothered me.
Kevin Kern There is no specific sexual abuse, ever. The physical abuse is more implied early on, then gets more intense as the story goes on. Having worked professionally, with children of all ages, for over 35 years, I think this book is good for 6th graders on. If they are very sensitive, they need to talk about it or write about it. I do not think teachers should assign it, until 8th or 9th grade.
