Goodreads asked Marina Budhos:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Marina Budhos Two dinner conversations and a lunch conversation. Seems food is a theme here! The dinner conversations were for "Watched," where I heard about surveillance of Muslims, particularly young students. I got curious. Then another friend over dinner told me about a young man who had come into her office and seemed to be boasting that he was an informant. That fascinated me. My other recent book, co-authored with Marc Aronson, "Eyes of the World," grew out of listening to Walter Dean Myers speak about one of his book projects. A light went off in me about my own.
