Danielle asked Scott Hildreth:

I was wondering, about your writing process. Do your write one book at a time? Also does Jess have any input in your books? Sometimes when you write about women's conversations they are spot on! So good and SO funny. And finally how long does it take you to write a book? Thanks! Just finished Dirty and love it!!! Can't wait for your next book. Which is........ LOL

Scott Hildreth Danielle,

I'll do my best to give you an idea, from start to finish, how the process works for me.

I develop characters in my head. For instance:

Male, strong sense of moral right and wrong, close to mother, no father, low self-worth, very competitive due to self-worth issues. Humble.

Female, strong-willed, determined, doesn't have a foul mouth, is not a doormat, strong work ethic, loose ties to mother, no father.

And I begin to write. I make no outline, have no preconceived notions, and no plot. I simply write. No one assists me, I get no opinions, nor do I have an editor.

I have one person who beta reads for me, and catches errors.

I also have a very strong (and apparently accurate) sense of human nature which allows me to write female and male POV's accurately.

Until DIRTY, Jess hasn't read one of my books in over a year (during my writing proves or after), she simply doesn't have time. So, she gives no opinions about anything in that respect.

I have an odd sense of humor that ranges from dry to outspoken and in-your-face, so the sense of humor that is expressed in my books is all me.

I wrote DIRTY in eleven days. Generally, it takes from between 10-14 days to write one, but it is an exhausting process that includes back-to-back 18-20 hour days.

As far as writing one at a time, it's anyone's guess. I have written as many as 3 at once. Going back and forth is a disaster though (trying to find the voices in book 1, going to book 3 and attempting to accurately find their voices, etc.). It's ridiculous to attempt such things, but I have to go with what's in my head, and as I an not a note taker, I must rid myself of my thoughts as they come to me.

I think that's it.

Thank you for giving DIRTY a try, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks for the interest.

Scott
