Sammm asked Elise Kova:

Um, I feel like I'm about to ask a very silly question... I don't know if it's because I'm Asian, that I'm seeing stuff as Asian-ish when they probably aren't? The following words that appeared in THE ALCHEMISTS OF LOOM (Superb book, BTW!) "Oji", "Ryu", and "Dono"... ["kanji" (hiragana, romaji)] Do they have anything to do with "王子" (おうじ, ōji), "竜/龍" (りゅう, ryū), and "殿" (どの, -dono)?

Elise Kova Firstly, SO GLAD you enjoyed The Alchemists of Loom!

There are influences and inspiration from a number of areas. I'm a big traveler and love exploring the real world to help inspire my "fake" worlds. Part of that "inspiration well" was from my time living in Japan, both living abroad and then working there for almost two years. Fun fact -- I actually wrote Air Awakens while living there!
