Goodreads asked Michael Finkel:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Michael Finkel Sometimes, you just have to sit your butt in a chair. Getting nothing done, I've learned over the years (I've been a full-time writer for more than a quarter century), is actually getting something done. Occasionally, you just have to write poorly for a spell -- that's better than not writing, and you can polish up your prose when creativity has resettled in your brain. Also, there's the fact that I need to pay my bills and support my family. Fear helps keep writer's block at bay.
