How many revisions do you do before you are satisfied with a story?

I don't know that I am every completely satisfied, but my books go through 2 - 3 revisions with my editor. My editor always receives the first raw draft, then while she's reading I make my own notes, and combine her notes with mine to provide the first revised draft. Then there's generally one more go-round before the book goes to copyediting. With a "book per year" there is no time for lots of revisions.

I've appreciated the way that your character has grown throughout the series. There is one characteristic/gift of Maisie's that I noticed you decided to allow to quietly drop out of the storylines--communication with dead spirits. I think it was a good choice, but I'm curious--why did you have this as part of the character in early novels? What prompted the change?

Hi, Miss Jacqueline.There's a lot of great questions here. I'd personally love to see a PBS creation from your Maisie Dobbs series! That's where I fell in love with Sherlock, and Maisie has that same feel about her, except that she wears a skirt as her greatest challenge. I've always wondered about Maurice. He seems such a strong mentor that he HAS to represent someone in your life. Your grandfather, perhaps?
