Jacqueline Winspear Some things happen organically in story-telling - and it just seemed to flow as I created the character of Maisie Dobbs, and as she revealed herself to me, that there was this immersion into eastern philosophy. And it is also historically accurate, as there was (among a certain type of person, the sort that Maurice Blanche would know) a great interest in eastern philosophy in Britain. The influence of the Raj contributed to this. I have books on eastern philosophy going back to the early 1900's

Huge fan of Maisie Dobbs. My question is two part. When Maurice Blanche took Maisie on as a student when she was 13, she was assigned to read various books from different subjects. I wondered if you will have a list of Maurice Blanche's syllabus or an example like a similar syllabus in one of your future newsletters?

Maisie Dobbs is one of my favorite characters. In the preview for In This Grave Hour, we meet a character again from one of your earlier Maisie books - I think it was the Secret Agent book. Question: Did you already have an idea about writing In This Grave Hour when you wrote the Maisie book about Maisie taking a teaching position at University to find out something for the British government?
