Lev, Besides the background of some of the main characters, what influences from living in NYC have crept into the Magicians trilogy?

Mostly that feeling of living somewhere but still feeling like you're on the outside -- you're not really there. There's so much money and success in this city, and it's always on display and in your face, and when you haven't got any you feel a bit like everybody else is magic except you. That feeling definitely got into Julia's story.

A friend recently refused to listen to the audio version of your book, claiming "The author wrote it for me to read, not listen to". As a big audiobook fan, this made me wonder, do you prefer readers to actually read your book in print? As an author, did you have much influence over the audio version of The Magicians? I.e. the selection of the narrator, tone, how things are pronounced.
