Honestly, it's very dependent on your genre. I bought tables at horror conventions to promote my self-published books when I first started out. I also hired blog tour hosts to help promote my books. I wrote guest posts on other authors blogs in the genre. In the last couple of years, I've discovered that advertising through places like BookSends and BookBub are very helpful. I also make sure I'm accessible through my website and social media.
