Hi Janet, I think White Oleander is the greatest piece of fiction in today's literature. The movie was good, but I would love to remake it. Have you ever thought of a dream cast? Mine would be Olivia (so upset they cut her from screenplay): Halle Berry, Ingrid: Charlize Theron, Astrid: Emily Browning, Claire: Anne Hathaway, Starr: Cameron Diaz, Ray: Norman Reedus, Rena: KSeniya Rappoport (TBC)

Janet Fitch Thanks for this! So glad you enjoyed the book. I think everyone sees different people in their heads when they read a book--generally I'm reluctant to share mine because I wouldn't want people to think mine were the "right" ones. They were just the ones that seemed to embody the characters that i saw while I was writing the book. I much prefer to see how others see the characters. And I loved the people they cast in White Oleander the movie. But while I was writing, I saw Ingrid as Nina Van Pallandt, Astrid as a young Uma Thurman, and Claire as Audrey Hepburn. So your casting is pretty great. My Starr, Olivia and Rena were people I actually knew.
