Phyllis asked Susan Mallery:

Writing is basically a 24/7 job. When you "unwind" how do you shut down? What is it that helps you to turn off your mind? It has to be tough, I imagine a writer is influenced by everything around them.

Susan Mallery Hi, Phyllis! I'm not sure my mind entirely shuts down from writing. I don't think I'd want it to. You never know when the most brilliant ideas are going to come. However, what I try to do when I'm not working is to simply make a note of the idea and then let it go. Hopefully, I write the note in such a way that I'll understand what I was thinking when I get back to it.

To wind down, I love reading (of course). I love going out for a nice dinner with a glass of wine. I like playing with my dog - or as I call her, the rodent. (She's tiny, just six pounds.) I enjoy getting together with my girlfriends. I also like going to the mall, also known as the mothership. But yes, no matter where I am or what I'm doing, I might be inspired with a story idea.
