Goodreads asked James Carrol:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

James Carrol Yes...thank you! I started this storyline in 1996, while working with another screenplay writer/friend from Hollywood/ Universal in California. After the rejection of a screenplay by the studio, they asked me if I had any other stories in the works. I told them I was working on writing a fictional scene based on true event. As I described the scene, which is chapter 3, Country Bust. They where very excited and enjoyed the character/Tommy and the whole scene of the muscle car coming out of the tree line with the chickens jumping over his car driving off and on the dirt farm road.
However, at the time I was pushing another story and doing a lot of historic research on the characters of a true story from England in 1582.
which was accepted at an early stag of development.
Many of the scenes where written over the years, but I finally picked up the story again in 2012 and finished it in 2013. the characters in the this vice-detective life where inspired by some people that I had met traveling....and while living in Miami, and while walking the foggy "Poe" Baltimore streets in December.
