How do you record books without getting cottonmouth?

Mary Robinette Kowal When you're recording, you have to be word perfect without any stumbles. In practice, this means that we stop every couple of paragraphs because I mispronounce something or stumble over a tricky word. Sometimes just random tongue-ties, too. When that happens, there's plenty of time to take a sip of water.

That's really the secret. Lots of hydration.

Also, in the booth, I don't have to project, which means less air passing through my mouth and less dryness. Comparatively.

Mostly, it's just water.

I'm listening to the audiobook of "Seveneves," and I'm really enjoying both the book and your performance. I kind of regret reading rather than listening to your (quite excellent) Glamorist books now! My question is this: Do you ever decline to read an audiobook because you just didn't enjoy or respect the book in question? Or because you don't feel like you can do justice to one or more of the characters?

I know you're all quite busy, but I've wondered if your collective meeting of the minds was simply work and then done, or if you all make it a point to do some fun and non-work related things together.
