Dear Mr Towles, I throughly enjoyed A Gentleman in Moscow (and feel I have to rate it as the best book of 2016) and am looking forward to reading Rules of Civility. In the former, the subject of Russian literature continually appears. I was just curious what your favourite piece of classical Russian literature is and why?

Dear Cody,
I would be loath to single out a single Russian classic. What can I say, is that we as contemporaries have been given a gift in the husband and wife team of Volokhonsky and Pevear who in the last 20 years have done a masterful job of translating more than 15 Russian classics. I'd read anything they've translated.

What persuaded you to use an "Em dash" before dialogue in "The Rules of Civility?" I've worked with editors who would fall over dead at such a departure from orthodoxy. Also, thank you for sharing the story of your 7 year literary project - truly a source of inspiration to any author facing adversity. At what point in writing and editing "Rules" did you sell the manuscript?
