Most medieval romance authors write about lords and ladies or knights in shining armor. I'm also interested in the common folk. There were so many interesting professions in Tudor times! I have a college degree in Vocal Music, so I know a lot about singing Renaissance madrigals. Thus was born my heroine, Mery Graham, a traveling minstrel. As for my hero, I love a man who can cook, so I decided to make Tristan MacKenzie a chef to Mary Queen of Scots. French influence was strong in 16th Century Scotland, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the cuisine! I was lucky enough to get a special tour at Stirling Castle with the Tudor chef there, who gave me loads of insight into the workings of the kitchens!
