As an only child, I usually had to entertain myself. Writing and painting, and reading, were great ways of doing that. Essentially, inspiration has been there since those early years and it comes from many things: people on the street or in the office, TV shows, news, overheard water-cooler chatter. The most inconsequential thing can prove the most inspiring; you just have to apply imagination.
