In terms of content, Hugo is incredibly chaste when it comes to sex (at one point, he gives us two pages about how he can't write about a girl getting dressed, because that's too sexy), and the story itself is incredibly uplifting. Though it's tragic (the title translates roughly to 'The Miserable'), it's a wonderful story. I'd recommend it if you don't mind long tangents and crying. (less)
