Do these books need to be read in order? Or could I pull off reading this one first?

Pamela Bronson Read them in order if possible. Later books contain some spoilers. It's also more enjoyable to see the development of the characters and relationships that way.
Rachel You could do that, but it would be much more enjoyable reading from the beginning. I found this series by reading Tears of the Pearl first (not sure which number that is). It was a great read on it's own, as the author does explain some things in minor detail in anticipation of the reader not having read all the books. After I finished I started from #1 and I am glad that I did. You'll get a little insight into the characters and why certain situations are what they are, but if you read too many books ahead and then try to start again, that will take some of the fun out of the suspense of the books.
