Goodreads asked Ryan Uytdewilligen:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Ryan Uytdewilligen I love the 1950’s/ 1960’s world and honestly I just want to get into a time machine and live there. But since time machines aren’t around… just yet… I have to settle for writing. That way I could do a lot of research and paint a picture, describing certain places or aspect of those decades I enjoyed. Movies of the time certainly inspired the look and feel. Paul Newman movies like Hud and The Long Hot Summer for starters. And books like The Outsiders and On the Road – I was just attracted to that meandering feel as well as the greaser/ drive in kind of lifestyle. As for the actual theme and subject matter – it was all beliefs and thoughts I was having and struggling with. I didn’t drive a tractor cross country but I thought and felt the same things as our main character. So I decided to present it all in a stylish 50’s/60’s classic teen adventure kind of way. I’ve been told it reads like a movie because it was always visualized as a movie from that era. I just can’t get enough of that time!
