We learn a lot of things about her past and current life, and we can surmise and fill in the gaps why she left. But unless I missed something (possible, since I often read before falling asleep), I don't believe she ever gives a definitive answer. (Unlike, say, why she left Chicago/college, which is spelled out pretty directly).(less)
