How do you choose what characters each book is going to center around?

Katie McGarry Hi Amber,

Usually a scene or an image will first pop into my mind and I feel like a detective as I try desperately to find the clues of who these new characters are. From there, I free write for a bit and try to discover their "voice". Eventually, everything falls into place.
