Hi Vicki - thanks so much for the question! The Barbizon Hotel went co-ed in 1981, and in 2005 it was converted into a condo. At that time, a dozen or so of the long-time residents were moved into rent-controlled apartments on the 4th floor. What intrigued me -- and what formed the basis of The Dollhouse -- was that dramatic change. For example, in 1966 you could stay at the hotel for a week for $6.75. While today, there's a penthouse apartment available for a cool $17 million! Crazy, right?
