A Goodreads user asked D.J. MacHale:

I love your Pendragon series it is amazing. Which book in the series was your favorite?

D.J. MacHale Thanks! That's a tough question to answer because I like different things about different books. I love reading The Merchant of Death the most because it's fun to go back and get into the head of Bobby and Company the way they were before it all began, while knowing what is to come. The most fun book to write was The Never War because it dealt with real history and an era that I'm fascinated with. And I loved writing the Tower of Terror connection. The most difficult book to write was The Quillan Games because I had to come up with all of those games, figure out the rules, and then have Bobby play them. That was tough. But the book I'm the most proud of is The Soldiers of Halla. Not that I think it's the best book or anything, but it was no small task to wrap up the whole ten book epic in one novel, and I think it came out pretty well. So there you go!
