Susan asked Gail Carriger:

I just finished Imprudence, and it was so much fun! When you started the series, did you know it would be a series? I keep writing books, and I think I will write another with the same characters, but when I finish I get interested in another project and... no series. How do you stay focused on the same characters and setting?

Gail Carriger For Soulless, no. I thought it was the prequel for Prudence. It evolved into a series. I think that's one of the reasons I have such a wide cast of characters, keeps me entertained. For the Finishing School series, yes, I knew there would be four books. For Custard Protocol I knew it woudl be a series but I didn't knwo how long, still don't. Could be one more, could be four more. Depends on lots of factors not the least of which is the publishing industry. For the novellas, I'm purposefully structuring them with different POV characters for each book, to keep me absorbed. I suppose I stay focused on my characters because I consider them my friends, why wouldn't I want to re-visit old friends?
