I began to read romance, that's what happened. I'd been "forced" to read other things, of course, and it never resonated with me. I found assigned reading to be too tragic, too "preachy," slow and boring.
Then my sis introduced me to romance novels when I was too sick to do much of anything except read, and I was instantly hooked. Character driven, fast-paced, humor, drama, romance... Love, love, love the genre!
Within a year of becoming a voracious reader, I began to write. It took me over 10 complete books and 5 years of submitting them to publishers before I finally sold. :-)
